The 6 Ways to Make Dad Feel Special This Father's Day

June 17th, 2014 • Posted by Truu Salon • Permalink

Father's Day is just around the corner and it's time to make sure your dad knows just how much you love and appreciate him.  Here are a few ideas to help you out:

  1. Fire up the grill.
Treat Dad to a special barbecue, where he's the guest of honor. Make his favorite dishes and he will feel so appreciated by the thought and effort you put in to preparing a meal just for him.

  2. Take Dad out to the ball game.
Take him out with the crowd. Buy him some peanuts and cracker jacks. What dad wouldn't love that? Not only will it remind him of the times his dad took him to the ball game, but it'll also remind him of all the times he took you to the ball game too.  What a wonderful way to reminisce and build new memories at the same time.

  3. Give Dad the best six-pack.
If you don't know what your dad's favorite beer is, than it's time to do some investigating. Some stores even allow you to mix and match, so you can give Dad a super personalized six-pack. You can choose a few of his favorites and maybe a few he hasn't tried before too. It'll be like private beer tasting.

  4. Create a personalized photo collage.
Invest in a collage picture frame. As an alternative, you can also learn how to make your own picture collage frame, using a few old frames that you may already have lying around the house.  Then, go through you family photos and pick out all your favorite photos with you and your dad and arrange them in the collage frame.

  5. Pamper Dad with help from Aveda.
Designed specifically for men, Aveda's Men Pure-FormanceTM line is formulated with our exclusive phyto-active blend, clinically proven to deliver soothing care to hair and scalp with style. This line also features a grooming clay, which gives hair definition and strong hold with a matte finish, as well as a dual action aftershave that moisturizes skin and also reduces razor burn and in-grown hairs.

  6. Make Dad an appointment with us.

Hair Accessories For Your Wedding Day

June 2nd, 2014 • Posted by Truu Salon • Permalink

No doubt you've flipped through a ton of wedding magazines and looked at pictures online to find some inspiration for your wedding-day hairdo. While the style is important, you should also consider hair accessories.

Beaded comb

If you plan to pull your hair back into a low bun or an elegant knot, a beaded comb is a great accessory. The comb will draw attention to your hair without taking away from its beauty. Once a comb is slid into place, it stays put. You won't have to fuss with it throughout the day.

Decorative bobby pins

Pinned curls are all the wedding-rage right now. To create this look, your stylist will curl strands of your hair and then twist and pin the curls in the back. This kind of updo will require quite a few bobby pins to secure, but the finished look is red carpet worthy. Decorative bobby pins add the final touch to this do. Consider pins with rhinestone tips, or go with colored pearls that match your wedding colors.

Hat with birdcage veil

If you want an eye-catching accessory, go for a small hat with a birdcage veil. This vintage 1950s look is making a comeback at weddings. These pieces need to sit high on your head, or off to one side, so the small veil reaches just below the eyes.

Whatever your wedding-day-do is, you'll want to schedule a practice appointment with your stylist about a month before your big day. Be sure to bring any hair accessories with you at that time.

Winning Hair Without a Wash

May 13th, 2014 • Posted by Truu Salon • Permalink

Who has time to wash, dry and style everyday? If you don't have the time,  what's a girl to do? Here's a list of quick and easy solutions to take your just-slept-on hair from drab to fab.

Time to tease

If your hair is just plain lifeless a day after washing and styling, you can tease it back to life. Go for an updo with a teased crown. Just grab your comb and tease a few sections of your hair to add a little volume. Then, pull it back into a puffy ponytail. It's a popular look right now and it's a great day-two do.

Grab your headband

Headbands are making a comeback. These hot accessories can turn your flattened hairdo into a trendy new look. You can leave your hair loose or you can pull it back. Colorful headbands with embellishments are hot right now so don't be afraid to go with something bright and funky.

Styling your hair doesn't have to be a chore, especially on day two. You just have to be a little creative and know which products work to your benefit. Don't go overboard on products. Too much product will be counterproductive.  Call or stop by today and we can recommend some great Aveda products that can make that second day style look amazing!
